I need a project and i need a welding bench
Was thinking of inverted C-channel steel top with gaps between for clamps of some sort. 100x50mm channel maybe, seems big enough.
Top slats mounted or welded to two C-channel side beams in the normal orientation.
Box section legs and some heavy braked castors.
Maybe a bottom shelf.
OR
My current bench is a 50mm steel angle frame with plywood top covered in 3mm sheet - its top is warped and dangerous as the wood can get a bit hot under the sheet but has done me well for a few years so owes me nothing.
Maybe i could save £££ and simply remove the top then replace with C-channel and gaps??
Questions...
Is c-channel flat enough on the back for a table top?
Keep it simple and weld the slats on?
Any size recommended for the slat gaps?
Any thoughts?
