I've got a 08 Ford Ranger with a 2.5 TDCI engine which uses a Bosch diesel injection system and I've given it an overhaul which involved replacing the belts and setting the tappets.
To adjust the tappets the rocker cover needs to come off which means pulling the injectors and removing the fuel rail and pipes. The injectors were numbered and inlets sealed before pulling, the high pressure pipe to the fuel rail was disconnected and the complete rail and pipes was sealed in a bag. The overhaul was carried out and the removed components replaced.
Fuel was primed back up to pressure and I tried to start the engine - it turns over but does not fire.
I checked it over and there is no fuel reaching the rail, it's definitely leaving the fuel filter and being drawn in to the low pressure side of the Bosch pump but it must be leaving the pump by the tank return.
Any ideas what could be causing the pump to not pressurise the fuel rail?
