Couldn’t agree more. Recently when down in London decided to visit the science museum, it’s 30 years since my last visit. Remember the place being full of innovative machinery & discoveries, now it’s all just pointless “interactive experiences”.There is a worrying trend in many modern museums. They are run by luvvies and turning into art galleries.
Swansea used to have a great maritime and industrial museum. It had a full size working woolen mill that produced all sorts of clothing you could buy. There were old lifeboats - Bofors guns - all sorts. Then they got a big grant. They got rid of ALL the interesting stuff. Now it has loads of interactive displays! All the good stuff is in storage.
Last year I went to the maritime museum in Greenwich. First time since I was a kid.
Loads of big empty spaces. Only 2 or 3 boats in there. Not a single WW1 or WW2 display. Complete and utter waste of time.
A nice weekend away is a day shopping in Shrewsbury
Beamish was a place I really enjoyed, more a walk back in time than a heavily stocked museum and York Minster museum, that was brilliant, you could actually enter the cell Dick Turpin spent his last days in.
Never heard from him again.
It was before ebay existed.......Did you check eBay?
National museum of flight is another great day out. It has some of the most iconic aircraft.
Dehaviland Comet
Vulcan bomber
And my favourite the Concorde which you can go inside.
In order...

Did the Hadrian’s Wall walk, and loved every minute of it. Dinky little museums filled with wonderful treasures, up to the big, part-excavated sites such as Vindolanda.
Just so many things to see, it was almost overwhelming, and when we approached these wonderful sites during the walk, it was “oh look, another tea shop with a fort attached”.
