Hi am new to the forum, been welding for years Both Mig and Tig with stuff ranging from a Clarke 100A mig to a 400A Miller inverter mig set at work and various Kemmpi, SAF sets in-between, I can stick weld to a point but prefer not to lol, hope you can help with my little Migatronic....
as title says really,
Had this machine for a while and has never been the most powerful of beasts, but was mainly using it for car body repairs and the odd small fab project.
Now ive come to weld some thicker material and it seems there is very little difference between settings 2,3 & 4, so we Stripped the Main relay down, Cleaned it, Cleaned out the Voltage selector switch, gave the torch a service and added a fan we had spare from and old Cebora pocket mig (i think)
checked all the connections, the Earth Clamp and 13A plug.
Whilst it has made some improvement to the stability of the arc (the torch & relay service did that) it won't even penetrate 3mm plate on the highest setting (4) with 0.6 wire & Argosheild. Its so poor its hardly blistered the paint on the other side of the 3thk plate.
so its getting G.O and blasted in with the Tig.....
Am at bit of a loss to be honest, it was a good little set, takes 15KG reels and has enough room for a euro torch conversion.
My mate who I share the workshop with has a Clarke 151TE and its streets ahead in terms of power of the Rally166.
any ideas?
have even been short listing 160 - 180A single phase sets on Ebay as replacements.
