I think there is a point as it's a nice exercise to learn seriously thin welding technique but once mastered then I quite agree it's just a waste of blades.It did once and could never see the point after that

Exactly. Great test of skill and great test of your machine capability too but like you say once it's done it's time to put the skills to paying useBit like the coke cans

cheers i was about to buy said kit just to get them really, but if you can get down to 10 amp on a 1.6 with a bit of prep i wont bother, i have spent a fortune already so far and yet to even try it .No. It's a preference thing.
1mm would be fine for up to 60 amps on DC.
Useless on AC.
I don't use them because I don't need them. I can weld razor blades butt to butt with 10amps on a well prepped 1.6 so I've no use for 1mm. That's not to say they are no use. Some people love em.

Me too, i keep a few 1mm ones,I keep a 1mm setup for very fine use as it does have its uses for some of the stuff I do, it's a personal preference really

Only time i found them useful was on a wafer thin Ford modal A stainless grill shell.
I wouldn't pay too much attention to that Miller calculator... sometimes it's in the ballpark but other times it spits out utter nonsense for exampleOn the Miller welding website there is a simple calculator , put in what your doing , with what & it gives an answer .
So in that case using the calculator you should be able to write up your own list

1/16" open root butt on stainless steel it suggests 50 - 80A (and 10% more for carbon steels) which isn't gonna end well for anyone that'd use a calculator for an idea of amperage needed
1/16 butt on aluminium is in the ball park with a suggested 65 - 75A however it suggests 55 - 75A for a fillet on the same material and less amps for a fillet on 1/4" ali than it suggests for a 1/4" open root butt!
