I have been offered a tube test on Monday just wondering what this would consist of as I have never even done a weld test before I just posted my cv and got a call about this
Any advice would be good
No I emailed back to ask what process etc just I don't have very much experience only welded smaller diameter pipes on a jig at my current job but this was all on my cv just have no idea what to expect didnt think I would get a reply
It is an engineering company so a wide variety from gates and handrails to pontoons water tanks and some big structures built in workshop then built out on site
This doesn't sound like a 5/6g butt joint to me. I've never heard of it been called a "tube test" before. That's an open root pipe butt joint.
My guess would be it will be as you say a quick whipping round some bits of tubing.
Now I might make that sound easy but depending on gage, position and joint type it can be challenging if you've not done much before.
Make sure you get yourself a decent boat level, the stabila rare earth magnet Ines are the best, and get a decent combination square. Bahco are probably the best cheap cheap ones £15 ish, The Clarke precision one is good for £30 but nothing beats a good Moore and Wright or Mitutoyo but you're looking at £150 odd.
Bit like mechanics and snap on tools, if you're using them all day you need something decent.
