Having lived in a very old house with very dodgy plumbing I thought I would share this with people - although I bet everyone on here already knows it lol.
Our water was pumped to a header tank in the attic from a stream. The internal pipework was shocking - such small bores the water pressure was higher upstairs than downstairs!
If the pump tripped out and you ran a tap you would end up with a very nasty airlock. No mains pressure to try the old trick of a thumb over a mixer tap or a pipe from one to the other.
One night in desperation I used a water fire extinguisher! That worked pretty well but then I had the idea of using my Karcher floor cleaner. Any wet and dry cleaner would work. Just put it over the tap and suck - takes a few seconds to pull it all through!
Just thought it might be useful to someone!
