Hi all, this is Chris just joined the forum today.
Well here it is, i'm actually an apprentice mechanical fitter but the company i'm employed with manufacturers for whiskey distilleries and also provides various welded structures such as acoustic tunnels, machine guards, platforms etc. As we're manufacturing for distilleries most of the welding we do is Stainless Steel Tig fuse welding. I'm nearly time served and throughout my apprenticeship i've been working more in the fabricating side of production. Ive picked up the basics for stainless steel welding although it is mostly fuse welding and filler rods are only used when necessary. Don't really think i can rate myself as a welder though as it seems our kind of welding is quite restricted and majority of welding is carried out by fitters, we only have one actual welder employed and even at that he specialises in MIG.
Anyhoo boring jargon aside, the problems i'm encountering most is .... distortion!. We do a fair bit of welding on st. st sheet normally 2-3mm thick and the little nuisance twists like mad.
So what i'm wondering if there's any tips like tack welding sequences or current settings you guys might use?
Any feedback would be awesome
Cheers Guys hope to speak to you all soon!
