And Thanks Seadog! Do yo have a similar welder, or do you do repairs for welding equipment?
Thats one of them faraday cage set ups a lot of modern tig units have them instead of open spark gaps cant beat the old open ones.possible to clean up and re gap and restore the hf i used an esab which performed like a tesla coilMy first real post about actual welding on the forum!
I'm having trouble with my tig welder HF start, it's an old Lincoln Norweld 131.
It's just not working when I try to start welding, I have to scratch start it every time and as I'm learning it's no good, I keep melting me tungsten......
It makes a ticking sound for about 5 seconds when I hit the pedel which I assume is the HF generator and a small component on the HF circuit board flickers a dull red while this is happening. I'm not sure if this is meant to flicker red or not. Photo below.
Once I've got an arc going ( assuming I don't ****** the tungsten ) I can actually product a reasonable weld....
Can anyone tell me how long an HF start strike should be? I'm holding the tip about 2-3 mm from the work. It's not jumping that, I'm not sure if it's me or the machine.
The flickering component it the white Siemens one in the centre.
