Hi Folks,
I'm just trying to TIG braze some 5mm stainless 316l rod together - T joints. I'm using SIFbronze No. 8 filler - I looked up the spec and these should be OK for stainless, I think? The braze seems to be flowing out OK but when I turn it over to do the other side the first size goes horrid (bubbly, porous, just horrid) on me. I have a reasonably large ceramic (7) and about 8 litres per minute or more of argon. I would have thought that the argon would flow around the joint and keep the other side clean? Could it be the slightly rusty steel plate I am welding on which is contaminating the joint? Any other suggestions please? Should I expect to get decent aesthetic results TIG brazing 316?
