I have some bits and pieces to make for the meddings drill and a Viceroy wood lathe I am renovating. I have some 10mm and 12mm 303 rod, I need to thread them to put knobs on the end, is it a die or screwcutting job? I know that 303 machines better then 304 but I have no practical experience.
Any tips welcome. It's going into plastic knobs with brass inserts. The below is an example, the left hand side is what holds the tool rests and tailstock down on the Viceroy, I have one decent on, another with no T bar and one missing. I'm just making 3 new T-bars out of 10mm 303 with new M10 knobs. The rest will be made form mild steel and painted.
The one the right is the sole arm left on the meddings to lower the quill so making three new ones out of 12mm 303 and I have 3 new M12 knobs. The other end is imperial, I forget the thread, I have it written down somewhere.
Cheers
Andy
