Nothing that big. It's just a cheap steel nut I bought to confirm the thread7/8 BSF is 11 TPI. Do you have a tap and die? Sounds like the threads may just need a clean.

Are you sure it's not binding on the split pin hole?Nothing that big. It's just a cheap steel nut I bought to confirm the thread
The bronze nut doesn't bind on it. It doesn't quite get that far anywayAre you sure it's not binding on the split pin hole?

Yup ^^ have done this, and on the larger sizes (like the OP's) you can even get a little fancy and angle the hacksaw bladeYou can fake a die (nut) by poking a hacksaw blade through your steel nut and cutting some slots in the threads. The sharp edges might just be enough to clean up the male threads on the shaft.
Is there another boat owner in your marina who would let you try both your nuts on his shaft? That would confirm the steel one is not faulty and that the old bronze one is indeed 7/8-11 BSF.

Not in a marina, just a workboat on my drying mooring as I've just changed the engine and had to put a new prop on. There's nothing wrong with the shaft thread, the bronze nut I have on it now works just fine. You can fake a die (nut) by poking a hacksaw blade through your steel nut and cutting some slots in the threads. If its not broke dont fix it…your bronze nut that is. .find somewhere else to fit a shaft anodeNot in a marina, just a workboat on my drying mooring as I've just changed the engine and had to put a new prop on. It's already bonded through the flex coupling, just fancied some extra protection for the new prop.Get or make a shaft eliminator and wire it up to a remote anode.
3/4 UNC
I know a few people who would give it a good goYou ain't screwing a 3/4" nut onto a 7/8" thread no matter how big your hammer.
Would have helped if I had read the whole threadYou ain't screwing a 3/4" nut onto a 7/8" thread no matter how big your hammer.
Try your thread gauge in the nutMaybe the nut I bought to check is wrong.
Also, you can cut the nut in half and clamp it on the good threads, and then wind it off to clean up a boogered end.Yup ^^ have done this, and on the larger sizes (like the OP's) you can even get a little fancy and angle the hacksaw blade
for positive rake.
it's the only way, no other option, it's got to go today!I know a few people who would give it a good go
So that’s where I’ve been going wrong all these yearsYou ain't screwing a 3/4" nut onto a 7/8" thread no matter how big your hammer.
