I notice that loads of people have looked but nobody's yet replied, perhaps, like me, they're thinking 'Cor I've never welded anything that thick'.
I'm not at all sure what a good weld 'd look like on summat that thick, but to my mind what's 'key' is what it looks like on the reverse side: has it successfully penetrated through?
Hope you get a more relevant reply from someone who knows this type of stuff. I work with 0.6mm and 0.9mm automotive.
Thanks for your reply. Here is another pass with the bottom shown. This one is on a 3mm plate. Does that qualify as good penetration? Just bought the welder couple of days ago and I am practising. Lots of things to learn. I enjoy it.
depending on what you expect to weld i dont do any stuff that requires it to pass mot or strutural stuff as i dont think im good enught but it looks good perhaps try welding 2 bits of metal together and use the hammer test if the weld brakes you not done it right if it holds up you got a good weld
most stuff i do is seat repairs (if it brakes after i weld it its only me that will fall on the floor lol)and welding trolley etc
Looks to be too much reinforcement, try travelling faster or altering your parameters. Also the bead width alters in several places so try working on your consistency, that said these are just relatively minor adjustments, I've seen a lot worse, keep it up and you'll get it
