I'm liking your suggestions Si..........anything beats "the thin metal technique as described in Malc's tutorial"........trigger pulse welding ...TPW...or manual pulse welding ,,MPW......just looking for a common consensus....
Do beginners need yet another pretentious acronym to get their heads around when "thin-metal technique" is descriptive
What is wrong with jusy calling it the "thin metal technique"??
Engineer- I've been using my Clarke 150TE for years like this with no problems at all. I started using the thin metal technique years before I found this site.
It is up to the new welder on this site to click on the links, read the info and go practise.
We don't need to spoon- feed anyone. Let them show a little initiative and work it out for themselves.
Is there not a way of reducing these repeated questions?
I'm not convinced that many newbie's are doing this by the number of times we have to link to Malcs tutorials and still get questions ?...In an Ideal world ,they would read the tutorials first ..however...many try and run beads not realising, this method (for cars) its easier to learn and perform to an mot standard.....in the same way we are constantly being asked " which welder should i buy ?"...although a simple search of the forum displays the question has been answered many times .Is there not a way of reducing these repeated questions?
There would be... a "welding FAQ's" banner at the top of the page, with links or answers to those same FAQ's. Save a lot of bother, that would.
Chickenjohn - Initiative? You're an idealist matey.
Personally, I have no problem with helping people out. In fact, I enjoy doing so!
-snip-to be fair there are not many pro welders who even post on newbie/car questions anyway, they can afford decent cars
