There's going to be a wedding......sort of

We are gathered here today to join these in unholy metallurgy...

Here's my next project after completing the crane. I recently bought a really nice Tom Senior M1 horizontal mill off a fellow member.
Now unfortunately my ocd has taken over as I like my machines to look like new, at least at first. The mill is in superb mechanical condition but there are a few cosmetic imperfections that just won't do.

So I've started stripping it for a respray. But then comes the interesting bit, I'm going to fit a bridgeport vertical head so I will have the best of both worlds.
Here is tonight's progress.........

So in similar tradition to other great hybrids like the Triton, what do I call this contraption?

Tomport, Bridge Senior?

Sometimes on here I'm blown away by the vast knowledge of hundreds of subjects and how it's concentrated into simple informative posts.

Other times I strain my superior rectus rolling my eyes too hard.

Surprisingly I got it off eBay. I tried all the local machine tool dealers but no joy. Its rare now get something decent and sensibly priced off the bay

No its bit unusual this one. Its a cherrying head with a MT2 taper which is nice cause all my tooling is mt2

Nothing wrong with wanting it clean to start with, when I get a van it get a head to toe check over and thorough clean, dont mind my own dirt but damned if I want to handle some one elses!

Got the rest apart and now sanding and paint preparation.

I thought now the knee is off it should be manageable by hand, er..... No. Out with the chain blocks again.

Even the name plate is heavy. Its solid brass

Got a bit further, still not finished painting all the parts yet but it is now in a usable state.

These are the lumps of steel I'll be machining to make the attattachment parts for the vertical head.

The good thing I didn't know about these mills is the harbour is mt3 so with a mt3 to mt2 adapter can fit my fit my vertical cutters and machine the parts like on a vertical mill.

So I've fired her up started squaring up the steel.

Its either been flame or plasma cut so not precise and has a significant taper. The block is paralleliped

It's a bit rough yet but at least square on one side. Five more to go

A few more pics. There's a lot of machining to to so it's slow progress. Nothing interesting yet, just squaring up the rough cut pieces. It gives a nice finish though.
