Hello All,
I am currently hunting for a new MIG welder, its not my first but it will be my first brand new one. Usually i just pick up 2nd hand ones from friends and family and that has done me OK until now. I set my self a budget of £300 to start with but i'm willing to exceed that if the welder will perform better.
I've done what i usually do when i'm buying something that i'm no expert on, googled for reviews, however, no one seems to do independent reviews of welders (or I've struggled to find them).
So from what i have found, i have whittled it down to:
- GYS SmartMIG 162 (because of this forum) £389 + £38 + £7 = £434
- Parweld XTE 171C (because of this forum) £439
- Clarke 150/151/160 (usual DIY go to) £264 to £383
- BlueMig 150T (Landrover Mag Review) £298 + £38 = £336
If anyone has any more to add please do.
The GYS is basically the same price as the Parweld when in gas set up, and from what i can see the Parweld is better so im thinking the GYS is a no go. This is over my original budget of £300 by quite a way however.
The clarke's confuse me. There seem to be 4 models that have nearly identical spec yet one, the
'Clarke MIG151EN Turbo No Gas/Gas MIG Welder' is significantly cheaper at £264. Why is this?
The bluemig 150T is just something i stumbled upon and although the duty cycle is less then that of the Parweld it is £100 cheaper. Then again is stacks up against the clarke and its £80 more so why this over the clarke?
I think my main question is, Parweld Vs Clarke, why spend ~£180 more?
Any advice is very much appreciated.
Cheers,
Tony
