Its put a massive downer on me. i really enjoy doing it and i have a passion for it. If it wasn't for you guys on here, i wouldn't be where i am now.
Giz it's expected.I havn't blown my trumpet about said work. It is pretty bodge - i admit that. All the guy wanted. But he's appeared to pick on said poor work to have ago.

You've put up work on a site for all other welders to see. I've met and worked with many welders I've even trained a lot of them when I was running site jobs and a good % of them once up to speed think they are something special and no one else's work can compete.
Don't be defensive. If you put up your work expect different ideas from experience to come forward.I am aware of what a Pan and box folder are. I current own Neither, i did what i could with the tools i have. To be fair, the Fitment on my tank, doing it my way, was better than the one i was supplied that was folded.
Folding is defo the way to go for the above reasons and reduce distortion
But nevertheless the tank is a good job done well and different techniques will come with time.
A lot of these useful tools like folders are things you can build your self. Mine is a home made folder and loads better than the cheap tack that can be bought.
Not this week I'm afraid I'm working away but I'll pop him up once back.Any piccys of your folder Richard ? It was something i always wanted to build.

As useful as box and pan folders are there are simpler, faster and less wasteful ways to fold tanks. The open box + a lid method...

takes longer to layout and longer to cut out than folding two [ shapes like

More importantly it's easier to make sure you're folding against the grain without wasting even more material...
The 2 interlocking Cs (or one of them and a top hat shape to include mounting tabs) work well for small stuff but for larger tanks i'd rather use flanged joints to add stiffness and simplify assembly for example...

Bit more welding but that's the easy/fast bit of a fuel tank anyway. Radiused bends are better than sharp corners from a fatigue POV and while they make life easier/faster you don't even need to make/buy a folder for smallish tanks... just solid table, a bit of tube welded to some box or angle and some clamps to hold everything down while you bend the sheet round it by hand
Guy in question, his work below.
He slated me after doing this job today.
I know my stainless isnt amazing, but i had done exactly as asked and supplied buy the person with said exhaust above. weld on those 2 plates to act as skid plates.
But oddly enough. i cant find any "Ally" work done buy this guy...
