The possibilities are (almost) limitless. You can have a coast stop for normal and a ramp stop when you hit an estop for example it really depends what you wantI rigged my Harrison up with an inverter, and one of the options when setting up the inverter was how quickly it slows the motor (ramp down time I think it was called). I set it to almost 0 and was surprised at how quickly the machine stopped, I thought the weight of the chuck, gearbox shafts and motor would take some time to slow but it's basically instant - quite adequate for an emergency stop.
Now, as my machine has a mechanical clutch where the motor is left running all the time I left it set to stop instantly mainly so I can have an easier job when threading, but if it takes too long or you didn't want it to stop that quick all the time there's a means of adding a braking resistor to the VFD which you could probably set up to only work when using the emergency stop button?
