Hi all, I am currently killing disposable bottles for fun, gone through 3 last week, the slightly bigger extra capacity ultra super duper ones that are supposed to last ages, and now have unrelated stingy redness on my arms.
anyway redness aside, I have been phoning around motor factors etc and checking out boc and air products etc etc.
I am really struggling to get welding gas at reasonable prices. A 50l has about £30 worth of gas in it. So why does a "refill" cost about £120!
I don't want to be paying £50-60 on deliveries and collection's so I am seriously considering just using plain co2.
If memory serves correct I can get hold of 50kgs ( in a 1.6m cylinder) for £50, no rental, no charges just take it back with another £50 for a full bottle.
is it really worth all the hassle and extra money for a bit of argon in the mix?
and no its definitely not pub gas etc it is straight 100% co2.
im sure I tried it before when I first started welding and my weld looked a bit porous and flat, like when you actually run out of gas. It may have been the end of the bottles, it may have been my learning curve.
TLDR
does any one use straight co2 and is there a not able difference to tri mix etc? Can you get round it by upping the flow?
