Hi
I'm been researching MIG welders with a view to purchasing my first machine. Interest started with the need to repair the exhaust on my motorcycle, which was ultimately patches with JB weld, but think it'd be a useful piece of kit and skill to have in any event to enable a more permanent solution, as well as generally. Also looking into a C&G course at Sheffield College.
I want dual purpose, gas / gasless modes, with capacity to set power at 30A or even less, to enable the largest range of uses, but to be able to run off standard mains socket, so not too powerful.
I note a few are named on the site with the wire speed / power calculator as examples. Should I take it that Clarke 90EN and 160TE, SIP Migmate 130 are good units? I note that the latter two don't currently seem to be in general circulation, but would the nearest current model be a good alternative? That, is, are Clarke and SIP good choices in general?
I also had my eye on the Sealey MightyMIG 150; is that regarded as a good make / model, and am I correct in thinking that MightyMIG range is dual purpose, whereas, the SuperMIG range are gas only? Also, are most that are sold as gasless only, generally convertible into dual purpose?
In addition to the actual MIG welder unit, what ancillary equipment are regarded as absolute musts. I note some come with bits and pieces (face guard, hammer / brush, gas regulator, etc), that may or may not need buying as well separately, but would angle grinder be a definite as well? Any other bits and bobs?
Many thanks
Sal
