Does it not corrode at the weld?
Might be worth a try then as I can get a smallish bottle rent free for a reasonable price. It will let me try out the EWM on stainless to see if I like it, although to be honest I will likely end up staying with Tig and Stick for stainless.Never had a problem to date.

The saving buying used means the machine will pay for itself much quicker and you can spend the savings elsewhere on other equipment. EWM isn't going to have an major issues that Jim can fix. If they're anything like Lorch spares are guaranteed for 10 years.
I can tell from the case that that unit has been looked after not abused so I'd say you'll have no issues.Aye but it is probably about that age now
Just saw in the manual that it has an hour meter on it, too scared to ask Jim what it says
You won't go back to stick on stainless over the mig once you've tried it with the right gas. Remember if you rent a bottle from BOC you only pay a months rentak, you can get half sized stainshield if I remember correctly. Worth the cost.
It's done frequently and in a situation where 2 cylinders is impractical it's probably the best alternative. However it's not correct and whether people say it welded lovely and hasn't fallen apart etc it is still a "compromised" stainless mag weld when compared to one put down with the lower active gas mixes.I just use Argoshield lite with stainless and it gives a lovely finish.

Given what I imagine hood will be doing with his stainless work (316 marine grade stuff on boats at a guess) I'd suggest he doesn't use the incorrect gas mix and invests either in the proper stuff or uses his Tig.
For what my opinion is worth I think you would be barmy to use 95/5 mix for what you do.Yes, you are right, might still be worth getting a small bottle of rent free just to play with it and see what it does before deciding whether to get the proper stuff from BOC if I think I would use it enough. Then again if I got with BOC I suppose I can take it back before the month is up and probably won't cost any more than the rent free bottle
Will have to check things out but I better get the EWM first
A synergic program is where the guess work of marrying amps and volts together is less* of a tiresome task. One last question,
re programmes etc; is that a "synergic" inverter MIG, I was offered a GYS Pearl but thought it was over the top for my use to be honest.
and it wants coupling up with the best gas you can afford. I
