Finding a top loader
How about an nv4500? .75:1 5th
Why not use the s6-36 6 speed? 6th is overdrive on them. Plus, I believe our beloved @8ob should have a spare on loafing around.....
Also bob, stop putting pics up if you’re assorted crap because one day I’m going to have to come visit and I’m going to struggle to leave
@8ob Dodge 50's are not ugly! Reynolds Boughton 4x4 conversion even better, but bits impossible to find. Good man!
Finding a top loader
True bob. What exactly is it going in
Not too bad for bits Mat, they seem to be available if you hunt about. I have two I am going to use and two rotten ones for spares so I will only ever need service items.
Top loader with overdrive 4th is a rare box, for the sake of an adapter plate there are a few decent 5 speed boxes that may do the job,508d/608d merc box comes to mind and looks like a similar configuration to the SM420.

Thanks for your help Bob. I’m going to put more effort into find a rear diff. I need to replace the gaskets on the axle anyway. Dropping from 4.77 to around 3.7/9 is going to make a difference.
Any suggestions to American breakers
What about just change the crown wheel / pinion? Would be much easier to get posted from across the pond than a complete diff
Change the diff for a yank or Landy part?
Or the complete axle for something with better ratios
Could you weld a landy diff pan in and get some custom half shafts? 3.54 ratio
