...but probably a good explanation (I'm pretty new to MIG!).
I've been restoring my tired MGB and was finishing off some sill work this evening when my welder (new Clarke 135TE) behaved oddly. I was welding and striking an arc when it would stop, the wire would stick to the weld pool and the welder would humm louder than normal.
My wire speed and power setting haven't been changed (usually use speed 6 and 1 MAX for those who know the welder) for some time.
Gas is ok (although I'm near the end of the bottle) and wire moves freely.
Any ideas? I'm guessing I'm missing something obvious.
Oh and I did find the effect was less frequent when I held the shroud away from the metal I was welding against...
...thinking out loud now... maybe build up of splatter weld inside the shroud and the arc going through that instead?!
Any advice appreciated!
Cheers,
Rick.
