I appreciate this is a very subjective topic as there are so many variables that affect power consumption etc but I'm just after ball park figures....
So I have a (VERY) small workshop adjoined to a much larger warehouse and workshop run/owned by another engineer. To keep things simple when I moved in we agreed that utilities would remain in his name and I would simply pay a proportion towards. This started out at £90+VAT per month, but he is claiming that he has seen such a rise in usage that this now has to be adjusted to £120+VAT per month.
My business is aluminium inlet manifold fabrication primarily. Notable equipment would be a 250A AC tig (welding at 190A), flat bed linisher, couple of electric die grinders, ultrasonic cleaner (for carb/throttle body cleaning). 2 members of staff (inc myself) are there 3 days a week, 8 hours a day. The workshop itself is tiny (about 5m x 3m!) so heating in winter is one 3kw fan heater (clarke).
What are other business owners of similar ilk paying for their electric per month? To me what I am now being asked to pay seems a lot - I dont mind paying at all for my usage, but this being my first workshop (prior to which I was operating from my own and someone elses garage) I have little to gauge against.
