I got some sheet steel off cuts from a couple of fabricators to practice laying down some welds. I asked for mild steel. But the steel I was given looks different.
One lot of sheet steel (1.4mm) appears to have a light blue/grey surface (like tempered). I was told it was cold rolled (cold reduced) mild steel. If you sand off the blue/grey surface it reveals shiny steel underneath.
Is this cold rolled mild steel, and do I need to remove the blue/grey surface?
The second lot of sheet steel (2mm & 1.2mm) has a shiny steel colour surface. I am right in thinking that this is stainless steel? It is definitely not galvanised steel.
