Hi all, I'm very new here but have been reading threads on the site for the past few months.
After browsing this forum, various other website and tutorials I still have allot of questions.
I currently have my car into bits as i'm cutting out all the rust and trying to get it to a better state that will last me for a long time as i plan to keep the car. The rust patches i mention are on the rear arches, inner arches and rear sill sections. I have cut out as much of it as i can, some sections are hard to cut out therefore i plan to use glass fibre to cover the rust penetrated holes.
What process would everyone recommend to secure the car will not rust in the future? I have looked into Por15 but have seen negative comments towards it. Epoxy primer seems to be very popular but i am unsure how well this will stick to slightly rusty areas or existing paint / primer.
The plan was to:
- remove as much rust as possible
- Apply a rust converter (hammerite ku-rust or similar)
- Apply 2k epoxy primer
- Apply gravitex stone chip (from research, this seams the best)
- Then apply a paint over the top (unsure which)
- Then apply wax oil over the top (dinitrol)
Can anyone comment on the above steps? I'm very new to all this and want to do a good job but there's so many different techniques and methods, it's all very confusing on what the best thing to do is.
Also, i plan on spraying zinc primer on the new zintec zinc coated metal prior to welding it in.
Thanks,
Chris
