I have a bit of a pipe dream to extend my workshop out the back and side, I will do it but not sure when. It would make a significant improvement to the useable space and value. Currently this section of my workshop is single story with a drive on the side and a good size space out the rear. I would knock down the side wall and back wall and make it one large rectangular area. A rough estimate of the area size would be 6m X 15m. I would like a second story area which would be a wee liveable space and or storage area. My original thought was to build a pitched roof and use the roof space as a loft space as the liveable area. But the span is quite big for a simple pitched roof.
My question is could I build a pitched roof supported by perlins etc if it's possible or am I better off building a standard second floor and using trusses? I'm now thinking a second floor and trusses would be easier but no idea of the cost difference and advantages of both designs?
