I can get an angle and drill and tap some fixings to the steel and screw to the strut as a way to keep it in place, the runner is to be fixed to every joist. The upright strut has some 3 1/2" screws in it but a couple of bolts would be extra secure.
if you get a photo behind that wall it might be the full original beam therefore plating is all thats needed
from your original photo i believe it only had 2 rakers on it

Do you mean the purlin? If so it's the original beam joined at that point when the house was built.
Is the raker the diagonal joint?
