Been wedged in the front of the garage for a month as I haven't been able to get to it.

Good reorganisation and some new benches means I now have access. Wiring had been disconnected so a little research (its not my forte) and she lives.

Rowan was over the moon to see it live.
Popped the chuck out for a butchers and it's not a 2mt as some I believe were.

Ill have a read up and chexk but the other option was R8. Does that look about right. Not the best pics one handed. Sorry.

She's gonna have a quick clean and remove the ways for a proper clean. Gonna try and leave the head in place if poss.

Cheers lads. They seemed to be the two options it might have shipped with. I'll pull up a drawing and have a measure later.

Aye. Bitter sweet as I have a fair bit of mt2 tooling inc a boring head but it will see use in the lathe I suppose. Cheap enough to buy on the plus side and abundant.

Won't be buying any tooling for a while. Just spoke to the Garage after Saturdays breakdown. Fuel pump on a 2.4 duratorq. Might as well scrap it. time for a new van.

If it's a generic Chinese boring head then you can unscrew the mt2 arbour and screw on an r8 arbour

As the motors working I'm going to avoid pulling the head off. Needs a new bolt to lock in the fine quill feed and a new handle to raise the head. New belts and a clean.

Started pulling the bottom apart this evening to distract me from van woes. Other than somebody using the T slots as a dartboard everything else is in good shape under the mix of grease oil and coolant. Ways are good once the goop cleans off. Screws and nuts are tight. Might paint the base if I can be bothered.

Finally found a few spare hours for this.
3mm thick grease lubricant and swarf dried on and untouched for years took some shifting but came up ok. Shame the tables been butchered. Il look at repairing some of the worst bits at a later date.
Given up now as I cant feel my fingers. Il pull the base and column out tomorrow then I can think about lifting it on to its stand.

Yup. Why woudnt you clamp a sacrifical piece on it. Looks bad but the slots are usable for the most.

Fill with JBWeld then sand/file flat? Or fill with weld then grind flat?

Echoes my first thoughts. Anything needing strentgh id weld. Any plain holes onthe flat jb weld. Should fit in my gas bbq for preheating lol.

I would use belzona 111, then get sime one to gring the table on a surface gringer. The T can be easily put right once reassembled.

What about milling the top of the middle bar out and graft a new section in locate with dowles then secure with csk heat cap screw then mill the top and slots true to the rest of the bed. The rest could tidy up with JB weld.

Il have a look into it. Heard mention of slow curing epoxy and iron filings being used to good effect too.


Never going to get it perfect but would like to mitigate the worst.

Definitely worth a punt.
Il machine up some custom T bolts for it too. extra long to help bridge the damaged sections when clamping too.
