Does anyone know how "Rocket Lift" trolley jacks work? Rocket Lift is the function where the jack lifts very quickly until it contacts the load then lifts more conventionally.
I have a Sealey 1025HL. It's worked fine for years but the Rocket Lift has stopped working. The normal lift is fine. There is only a single cylinder on the jack so there must be some sort of pressure valve in the cylinder that diverts oil until the pressure rises as the proper load comes on but I can't find any information about it.
I've repaired a few trolley and bottle jacks in my time by replacing seals and/or springs so I'm no stranger to the inwards of these things but I'm reluctant to open up a cylinder that is still mostly working until I can find a diagram or description of the "rocket" part of it. Unusually, Sealey have been unable to provide a diagram of the cylinder. I can buy a whole new cylinder assembly for about a tenner less than a whole new jack so that would be daft, although I daresay I might find a use for a second jack now and again.
I know I should just ignore the problem and be happy that the jack still performs its primary function but it's going to nag at me until I fix it or until break it properly.
