There seemed to be some interest in my thread from back in December on a Titan mitre saw stand from Screwfix. As a lot of folks have an Evolution Rage mitre saw for cutting up bits of metal (and even wood, apparently!) I thought it be useful to bring together a quick review now that I've finally got it up and running.
Titan / Evolution / Other-generic-brand?
There was some chat in the earlier thread about whether the Titan is the same as the Evolution model (as well as other brands such as Wolf and VonHaus () that crop up on ebay and amazon.
I have to say that most of the parts look exactly the same, although the Titan variant has two arms for the extensions but most of the others seem to have a single arm.
I'm pretty convinced that they all start in the same factory though
Quick opinion
At prices ranging from £43 to £65 for what seems to be ostensibly the same device, I think if you can get it for the lower end then it's well worth investing in.
It's relatively solid, certainly way more than my previous practise of bunging the saw on a Workmate or on the ground, but I'm sure that the DeWalts etc will be better made - if you don't already have a stand then ~£45 gets you a decent enough bit of kit.
Unboxing
The box it is delivered in is pretty much the size of the unit when it's assembled and folded.
(dog costs extra)
all the bits, and a free dog chew toy
Some of the other generic brands have a single arm, but I expect that dual arms would be more stable
Folded up
Fixing the saw
It was obvious in hindsight, but the feet on the Evo Rage saw foul the fixing, so they need to come off:
Yep - that's better...
In action
Moving the saw and the sliding arms back and forth, and the rollers up and down:
And in action:
Taking the saw off the stand
It's also worth pointing out that the saw just unclips (still mounted to its mounting rails) so you can move the stand and the saw separately.
The saw can also be used still affixed to its mounting rails so it means you can still move it around easily without the stand.
