Hi folks, I might be making a small 1m x 1m gate that needs to hung from an old brick pier. The pier is very uneven in the face so the client has agreed that it'll be much neater to resin in the hinge pintles rather than have hinge plates as one plate will have to be shimmed to high heaven.
I've never used resin before as I've always made my own hinge plates so was wondering if anyone could give me any tips on general useage, beyond cleaning the hole out before putting the resin in?
It irritates me when you see gate hinge eyes that aren't sitting flush on the shoulders of BOTH hinge pintles so I'm wondering if I drilled the holes a couple mm bigger than is needed, that would allow me a little room to manouver the pintles in the hole before the resin sets. Would that be a good idea or not?
I thought it might be a good idea to block up the bottom of the gate and hang the gate on the pintles whilst the resin is setting (with everything clamped in place so it can't move) to ensure it's hung perfectly. Is that a good system or is there any problems I've overlooked?
What I'll probably end up doing is just buying a Brundles threaded adjustable hinge eye and welding a bit of bar in the eye to make it into a pintle, then the shank of it that's going in the hole has thread for the resin to key into.
Any pointers would be appreciated. Cheers
