Hi all!
I'm replacing the hole length of frame rails on my mk1 mx5. I spoke to the mx5 specialist who I have bought them from and asked the question... how do you coat the insides on the 'U' section prior to welding them on the car as once they are installed access is nearly gone!
They said they zinc primer the inner U faces that don't get welded & paint weld through primer on the lips that but up to the car.
I'm trying to figure out what zinc primer to use - the ones I can find say top coat over... I was always under the impression that primers kinda let water through & should be top coated for protection.
Anyone have any ideas what I could use? failing that I was just going to do what they recommend and when it's all installed blast a load of undercoat/oil products and hope I hit everywhere!
