I'm slowly but surely working through checking out a 5 year old 240 volt Sealy warm air heater that runs on paraffin.heating oil or diesel ( depending on how it's set up ) .
Typically it's been owned by , " An expert " who didn't know it should be serviced every 500 hrs , drained & run dry of fuel when laid up for more than a few months .
They have also dropped it out the back of a Landrover when it was full of fuel . As a result it has two bent wheels rims a good inch out of true . Its damaged the PCB ( repaired ) . Broken both PCB mounting brackets & broken off the fuel lift tube at the fuel tank .
Plus there are quite a few self tapping screws missing from all over the place .
The owner has screwed the air pressure control screw in with the wrong sized screw driver , the plastic screw is totally wrecked ,it's chavelled up so much It took me quite a while to very carefully unscrew it .
I know that messing about with the air pressure screw will likely have caused problems inside , " The end of motor ", air compressor pump . It uses 3 or so PSI air to blow across an emulsion tube that draws up fuel from the tank under the depression created by the low air pressure .
Once the fuel is emulsified it's then broken down further into a very fine ignitable mist with a 13 psi air pressure supplied by the same air pressure pump .
I fired it up only half rebuilt ( no fuel in it ) , it made a horrible metal on metal graunching noise .. like as not bent impeller arms on the air compressor at the air pump end of the fan motor .
Now I'm trying to think things through before I dismantle it any more or spend anything else as I've already spent about three hours on it & £ 18 or so .
QUESTION ....
If I split the air pump off the fan motor can it be repaired & fitted with new commercially available parts at the air pump end gaskets & a new air filter & fine linen filter fairly cheaply say under £ 30 ?
