Hello all,
I have a restoration project underway. It is a 1918 Drummond Model B lathe. There is a cast iron gear which has a broken tooth.
One idea to repair this is to machine the damaged tooth off completely and then build up the area by TIG brazing. I would then Re cut the tooth.
The first question is, what is the best rod to use? I have some Sif silicon bronze rods. I've heard though that aluminium bronze is better for TIG brazing to build up cast iron.
Second question is should AC be used with aluminium bronze? I've heard it should with the balance up at 90%.
It's a research question to get some idea before giving it a go.
Carl.
