My new regulator has been working fine for a week.
This morning it's showing the cylinder as empty, but if I open the control valve the flow dial shows there to be pressure. When I pressed the switch on the Tig torch, it hissed as usual.
I've tried giving the dial a gentle tap, but that didn't do anything.
I took the reg off, opened the valve on the cylinder just a touch and it hissed loudly. So there's definitely at least some gas in there.
I put he reg back on and gave it a good squirt of leak detector, but there were no signs of a problem.
I opened both valves, turned the Tig machine on, and it welds normally. (Or at least I could see no difference, but I'm pretty new to welding.)
It's not impossible that I left the cylinder open over night. I still have to look at the lable on the main valve to remember which way is open/closed. But everything had been switched off, the power was definitely disconnected, and when I did that I emptied the gas line (not sure what the correct term is) by pressing the switch on the torch before powering down. (Even if I had left the main cylinder valve open, I assume the internal valves in the machine default to closed when powered down.)
My one query is that I've seen mention of there being different regs for top and side entry cylinders.
My cylinder is side entry. The reg certainly wouldn't look wrong if it was top mounted, but I've no idea whether this is likely to be a problem.
Any thoughts before I take it back to the supplier on Monday morning?
