Hey all,
I purchased the above machine a while back - I do alot of DIY fabrication , Truck/Car stuff - And anything I need to repair fix at my yard.
I purchased the machine to help me cut plate - quickly and easily. Never really going any higher than 3/4mm mild steel.
It is my only dealing's with a plasma cutter - I have no other experience when it comes to these machines. So I have been through a learning curve - and I am not quite sure my opinions is matching up to other's who enjoy the benefits of this type of process.
I find when setting up plate to cut - that the machine is just so temperamental - not from a reliability/electronic point of view - but in it's consistency to perform such a simple task.
I burn far to many consumables for such small tasks - The arc is always so hard to maintain. And when I get the machine to work - it just doesn't cut through the way I would like it too.
I will list some of thing's I have tried and do to improve results.
1. My compressor is brand new - Watertraps are bone dry - I feel my air supply is clean and moisture free.
2. I clean up the steel very well - I clean the steel exactly where the burn will occur. I also clean up my earth points - And make sure my earth clamp is also nice and clean.
3. I install a whole new series of consumables. Making sure that everything is seated correctly.
4. I run the machine at the recommended pressure - I have also tried different settings To no avail.
5. I use a straight edge - I have made the mistake in the past of the tip touching the straight edge - I feel this has given me issues. I have now started to use the rubber side of the torch on the straight edge.
6. I pass the torch slowly and consistently over the metal - I use a cutting tip and rest it on the work piece. When the machine work's well - Arc is consistent but the cutting is just ****ty.
I have tried lot's of other thing's - no extension lead's - I have tried putting a 30amp commando plug on - and have it direct off my 30 amp supply - big cable running off a breaker that is connected to the mains.
My conclusion is.
Am I expecting to much of a amateur machine?
30 amp's just dosent cut it?
The machine has a small fault?
Should I send it back for a check up? I just want my plasma arc to be super strong - and much less picky - So i actually use the thing. There is just to much setup and hassle when I know my grinder is going to give me less stress. At the moment I just keep using thin cutting discs. The machine will be eBay'd and I will pick up a much better quality and higher amp machine.
Thankyou for any help.
