On my way to Durham from Stoke on Trent on Saturday morning exiting M6 onto M60 slip road I picked up a puncture. Heard a thud and a clicking noise which at first I thought came from a dodgy looking van just in front on the inside lane to me. I increased my speed to get in front of him thinking something was about to fall off his wagon when I got a low tyre pressure warning light. Funnily enough my first thought was a puncture but because of the lorry I blamed him until about the same time as the warning I noticed the clicking noise had followed me! The inner half hard shoulder was coned but luckily spaced apart enough for me to get in and have a look. Its just got light, drizzling and traffic is busy. Opened the door and found the rear offside still hissing air and had what looked like a big piece of stone/granite in the tread. Got out and went into mechanic mode and got the spare skinny on and got moving.(Thank the lord it was at least a wheel as the can stuff would not have been able to seal it) Took about 10 mins in all. Not happy though as now restricted to 50 all the way, even the artics were overtaking me in convoys! Sector time was increased by a hour all in. Phoned ahead and organised where the nearest tyre place were as long as it was not a Kwik Fit. The tyres fitted on the car were Michelin 235 55 R17 99h but the only brand they could get for me on the day were Bridgestone so I got them to fit 2 as at least I wanted the axles to have the same treads. £250 they cost. When he showed me the tyre I could not believe what it was. Good job it went in the tyre and not through somebodies windscreen.
