One for the sparky's here.
Have finally got the workshop connected up and Part P certified. However, we have a problem that the MCB in the house consumer unit that is supplying the workshop consumer unit is tripping every couple of minutes.
The electrician has tested the cable from the household consumer unit to the external juntion box and the underground armoured from the juntion box to the workshop consumer unit and reckons their is a problem with the armoured.
He has commented that when he stripped the outer of the armoured cable the copper core is blackened and thinks the cable is old/degraded and this is causing the problem. Pic below shows this, the actual core is sound, just the outside of each core is blackened.
Just wondered if this sounds likely before I rip up the buried cable which is a big job!
Any thoughts?
Cheers,
MM
