Make sure the quill is all the way up or it won't engage.Having a play with my cnc mill. The power drawbar makes all the right noises but won't release.
What does this lever on the side do? It doesn't move.

Yes it is. And I suspect your are right. Thanks. Is it an Align power draw bar? I think that lever is for the spindle brake
Good point will wind it up by hand. These old CNC machines are headwork but I won't let it beat me.Make sure the quill is all the way up or it won't engage.
Yes. Makes quite a racket but won't release. Is it operating on the push buttons? Just not turning the drawbar?
It totally shocked my brother and I as well. Driving home from the tank museum. Quite late at night. Only popped into the warehouse to check all ok but couldn't resist meddling. Didn't have time to explore further.I'm very confused. I didn't think that type of drawbar could be linked to the cnc control - it doesn't have a toolchanger, so it would be pointless...
To me, looking at those photos only, thats a completely manual power drawbar with a built in spindle brake mechanism. It's an air impact gun type which means it won't tighten or slacken without air pressure... But again, hard to tell from 2 photos only.
If a tool came out without anything powered up, then maybe it was just stuck in the taper and eventually dropped out...
I am not sure if that is what happened will check tonight. If it popped out when the spindle moved up, then as per Munkul, the drawbar has most likely been unscrewed, and the tool has simply been popped out.
Nor me.I also can’t see any other way for that movement to cause the tool to pop out
Yes that is what happened. It could mean you've unwound the drawbar, but the setup requires the spindle to be fully retracted for the tool extraction to actually work, and you just so happened to manage that.
