ok so this is a couple of years old, and stumbled across this, i would be very interested in modding my Snap on Plasma YA2225 (i think), any more info would be graciously received....Phil
I was following your thread on this conversion, I got given a chinese cut-50 plasma cutter which I intend to incorporate into my plasma table. I notice that mention was made of a schematic or a list of bits. I obviously wont be using the trigger on the gun or anything. So far I havent unpacked the plasma and to be honest have never used one but any info will be gratefully received.
I just did this to a Marquette 12150 "1350 Plasma cutting System" and I used a cheaper hack than an relay and cap if you can get cheaper. This is a touch start with a trigger. Mine did what all others did: I pushed the trigger and a few relays kicked but no arc. All I did was to use its adapted S45 trifamit gun (supplied with "non working" unit) and I put a 'momentary on' push button switch on top of the torch head and ran it to the air solenoid connector so I have complete control of the air solenoid. My trigger starts torch low voltage, then it trips the air solenoid, and then it trips the main transformer...but my main never tripped as the air had already opened the torch head short! the control board didnt sense a short in the torch tip so it never tripped the mains relay. If you disable the air solenoid, the relay still trips (no air though), but now the torch tip short is sensed and the mains come on. hit the push button to energize the air and bingo, you got your arc. It cost me $4 US for the 2A push switch and scrap wire for the leads. Youll lose your automatic post-air but if you want air, just hit air button and then pull trigger. Release trigger and it will default to its old no arc self and just push air for 50 seconds as long as you hold the air button. Now you got 2 buttons on torch, only down side. If your able, you could put trigger inside torch but there is little room, maybe a 2nd micro switch inside the trigger that hits after first like a 2 stage trigger? if you install time relay inside you lose restrike until after post air stops, could be up to 50 seconds on this model (there is a rheostat on the control board that MAY control this but I am not sure).
