I used to have a persistant problem with backfires (just when welding), to the point where it's made me a nervous wreck.
So I think I've finally got to the bottom of the problem... The regulator diaphragm was too small and was causing the oxygen to fluctuate at low pressure, the torch hasn't really backfired since I bought a reg with a larger diaghragm.
I mainly use light weight tips size 3-5... the manual states these should be run at 2psi equal pressure. I tend to run them 1.5psi higher to compensate for flashback arrestors etc.
Due to the torch backfiring in the past it's now left me a bit paranoid, even though I'm running these tips at 3.5psi the tip is getting hot within 5 seconds without even welding.
Is this normal or am I running these LW tips at too high pressure?
Thanks for any advice
Dom
