Oxford MigMaker 240-1 user review part one.
Purchased from 'Oxford Welding Supplies'
Brief run down - I started with a new company in June mainly sheet metal work, bit daunting as I come from a background of 'larger' more basic construction i.e. house extension joist / beam's gates / railings staircases etc etc. New company only had the one Mig set remaining which is an old beast of a machine that even on its lowest setting was too much for welding up very thin panels / sheet SO. . . . .once I had managed my three month startup period and had settled in and they were happy with me I thought - why not invest a little and show my commitment by buying a mig set, looked at the bigger sets but after careful consideration decided on the 16A Oxford MigMaker 240-1, if anything goes wrong with the job then it comes home with me and I can run it off a 13A plug via a fly lead / converter up to 65% power (32A machine actually runs less power on the 13A circuit)
Spoke with Joe on the phone and went through all my requirements which is why I ended up buying the 240-1 set, added a 4 meter torch (less time pulling the set around the work area) couple packets of .8 and 1mm tips and some spare shrouds, the set was in stock and was delivered within 2 days. Once unboxed I was surprised by the compact size (after coming from MUCH larger miller & BOC 3 phase units) fitted the rear bottle tray and the wheels, attached the torch / roll of .8 wire and the bottle of 'cougar' mix it was game on!
Boss was surprised I had 'stepped up' and so offered to buy the steel for my own bench / work area, made a basic drawing (not to scale) which he approved and the next steel delivery was mine.
There are photo's of it in this post here in the forums 'Projects Area'
As I mentioned - I also bought a 16A to 13A fly lead (same used for caravans) and pushed the settings to 2 -2 with no problems at all, plug didn't even get warm. Will be getting the 16A feed sorted in the new year so will sort out a 'part two' review for you then. As you can tell - up to this point I am exceptionally happy.
Merry corperatemas everyone, any quetions ask away!
