So a brief introduction, all my welding up until now has been light gauge (1-2mm) car bodywork on a circa 1986 SIP 130. I'm now the proud owner of an Oxford 200-1 migmate and have just laid my first beads.
Material: 4mm mild steel box section (no photos of reverse). I've not welded this thick a gauge before.
Gas: Hobbyweld 5
Wire: 0.8mm
The beads were laid in order top left, top right, middle left etc. On the first image i could see gas flow was too low
The second set with increased gas flow (now up to 8l/min on regulator gauge... uncalibrated). Probably the best is bottom centre (setting 11, approx 186A). However, no welds have penetrated through to the other side, there was a fair amount of spatter too. The sound was more of a 'crackle' than the 'buzz' I was used to with lighter gauge.
Any suggestions most welcome.
Jonathan.
