Congrats on the forum, and i`d like to introduce you to myself Barry, and my broken welder.
I know what most of you will say "i told you so", but just over a year ago i bought a mitech 200A AC/DC tig off ebay.
Every thing was rosy and working fine the welds were great, comparing to some really expensive machines i`ve used.
The tig did see me through most of my project until the other weekend when the over current protection light came on and stayed on. This was very strange because the machine was`nt under any load at the time all i did was press the button on the torch to arc up. Any way the light is on all the time now and obviously the disables any function of the machine.
I suppose i`m trying to find out any information about how these mos-fet tigs limit the current in an overload situation. I had assumed it uses something like a thermistor but can`t see anything like this hidden inside and im not an expert with elecronics
And here`s some pics of the project
I used the tig to make the inlet manifold, exhaust manifold, fuel tank, aux tanks, cage, and other things i cant remember over about 15 months.
