I recently decided to buy another new lid, this time I was after something with the following features:
Light weight
Adf filter close to my face but with a way so my breathing doesn't fog it up
Room underneath for my glasses (I have terrible short sight)
Flexible enough to squeeze into small gaps
This lid is intended for bodywork use only, doing mig steel and cusi3.
Thought I'd give an optrel weldcap a try, 85 quid off ebay, can always return it I thought, or sell it on if I didn't like it. It's the first time i've used a modern optrel mask and I must say the technology is a lot better than my first gen miller elite which I got new about 12 years ago (and has since died), and I think is also better than my Jackson w70 which I purchased in January.
This kind of mask isn't for everyone, but so far it ticks all the right boxes, the clear shade is wonderful, you can see the blue sky is actually blue (ish)... the only downsides so far - it needs the strap adjusting every time you put it on, at least I seem to need to do this. There is no sensitivity adjustment, just shade, and the nose support rubber needs some work to be comfortable.
I've got a mk6 transit to do sills and cab corners on this week so I'll put it through the paces and report how it works out.
