Hi all. I`ve recently been looking around at various tig plants with a view to expanding my workshop. Looking for a decent unit, that`ll run on single phase, not less than 160amps, ac/dc, with foot control and HF.
Now this may seem a little old fashioned of me, but i don`t want an inverter based machine. Yes, i know that a big coil of copper is going to take a far whack more juice, and i`m sure the inverter units are very good if you spend enough. But for day in day out welding i`d rather trust a solid lump than a pcb to deliver my power (hence why i still have the massive oxford in duty)
Recent scouring of the forum has pulled up the portamig 171 acdc which seems good enough, and i have seen MTA units for sale (anyone with experiance of these?) both seem right up my street and at a reasonable price. The other option would be if anywhere does a DC rectifier an HF unit that would be compatible with the oxford, is this a viable route?
I`m open to all suggestions and opinions, i`d like to hear from anyone that have used these units. Thanks all. Jay
