I've just finished making a register plate and a gas bottle chiminea before that and I have an urge to make something else now. I've been needing a good solid workbench at work in my garage for ages now to mount my vice and possibly add a pillar drill at some point.
I want something solid that will take a bit of a beating but wont be overkill. If I'm whacking anything it'll be in the vice but I want the whole thing to be solid and stable.
Are there any plans I could adapt? What thickness of steel for the worktop would you recommend? I mostly fit tyres at my garage but I occasionally do some mechanical work too.
Length 2400mm
Height 1000mm (I'm 6ft, is this high enough?)
width 600mm
Also how much would a steel top cost roughly?
Thanks
