Hi everyone!
I've been a good boy and have been saving my pennies for a MIG set. Whilst I'm not quite there cash wise, I've been looking at 2nd hand sets on fleabay along with reading some of the content of this site.
Mostly I'll be welding on my cars and some of them being French are made of 'cheese'. Some of the stuff is under 1mm thick where it's been stretched due to forming. I borrowed a mates SIP Weldmate 170 and whilst it performed well on thick stuff, I found it very difficult to use on the thin stuff - it would start off ok but after a second or two of welding, it 'went to pot'. I'm not sure if it was wire feed or voltage.
Anyway, I'm after a MIG which will perform well on 1mm stuff (and a bit thinner) but can also weld up to 5-6mm.
I've read good things about the Clarke 151TE and the Portamig sets on here. My concern is that the clarke wouldn't be that good on the thin stuff.
Any advice greatly appreciated!
