Hi all,
I know many have posted before me asking which welder to buy but it gets so confusing searching through all the different posts by different people with different requirements so I thought I'd just ask the question myself.
I've always wanted to build my own trike or custom bike. Having owned a few in the past it's always been so frustrating when someone asks 'did you build that?' and even when I've done a fair bit of work on it I can't say 'yes I did'.
I'll be mainly welding mild steel and can't see me ever needing to weld thicker than 4mm or 5mm absolute maximum. I would like the capability of welding thin sheet though and possibly some stainless in the future once I feel confident enough.
The first welder I was looking at was the GYS smartMIG 162
The second is the IFL I-tech 170 MIG inverter
The third is the Portamig 165 MIG welder.
I was thinking that the GYS looks like a good welder but the other two may be worth the extra expense in terms of what they can do.
One thing I don't understand is what the pros and cons of an Inverter like the IFL v's a transformer like the Portamig are.
The IFL can also be used for tig according to the write up. Is it truly a multi process machine or is that a bit of a gimmick? It would be great to try my hand at tig in the future.
what are your thoughts?
cheers,
Dave.
